Music Diary || No.4

Wow, what a busy few weeks I’ve had! Well, vaguely busy with a lack of motivation thrown in for good measure, BUT, rest assured I have still been listening to a load of new music. So, to make up for this post not quite running to schedule – which, let’s be honest, is something that only really matters to my little perfectionist brain – this playlist will feature more tracks than usual.

COMMON PEOPLE 2017 (VH Festival Review)

I was lucky enough to get press for Common People festival again this year, and much like last time, my favourite part of the day was The Uncommon Stage. Local bands were full of raw passion and the atmosphere in that tent was just unshakable.

Fazerdaze – Morningside || VH Album Review

If you read my post about the Tashaki Miyaki album, you might remember that I mentioned another dream pop album that I received on the same day. Well, I can finally share it with you! I fell in love with Morningside by Fazerdaze instantly, and was incredibly happy to be able to listen to it way over a month before it was to be released. That said, with all the time came a lot of procrastination, so when it came to writing up my review, I had listened to this album perhaps a little too much.

Meadowlark – Postcards || VH Track of the Day

Not too long ago, I was introduced to Meadowlark, a Bristol based duo with a sweet pop sound steeped in emotion. Having recently announced the upcoming release of their debut album (30th June), I took to Vulture Hound to feature the title track, ‘Postcards’ as Track of the Day.

Meadowlark – Nocturnes || VH Album Review

Following my review of Leif Vollebekk’s latest album, Stay Loose PR asked me to check out another band on their roster. This time it was Bristol based duo Meadowlark with their latest EP, Nocturnes. I think it’s safe to say I was hooked immediately.

Kings of Leon – Because of the Times || VH 10 Albums at 10 (#6)

I recently wrote a retrospective review of Kings of Leon’s third album Because of the Times, as part of Vulture Hound’s 10 Albums at 10 series. As you can probably guess it takes a look at ten albums from ten years ago, my choice being a Kings of Leon classic, with the likes of ‘Knocked Up’ and ‘Charmer’ on the track-list.

Leif Vollebekk – Twin Solitude || VH Album Review

It’s always nice to get a little recognition from a PR, to the point that they come directly to you in regards to reviewing one of their artists. It’s just the kind of ego boost that every writer needs. So when Ellie from Stay Loose sent me over Leif Vollebekk’s latest album Twin Solitude, I was absolutely up for giving it a listen.

Declan McKenna || VH Artist of the Week (23/01/17)

A little while ago I received several emails from Chalk Press Agency about an artist called Declan McKenna. After getting over my birthday relaxation period, I finally took notice of these emails and listened to his latest track (after all, they had been ever so kind last year having sent me a private link to The Big Moon’s Formidable video prior to its release). I thoroughly enjoyed what I heard, he puts his passion for music and politics together in such an ingenious way, stating the problems of the world, while giving us something to sing about.
