My most recent visit to Margate was my favourite yet. Not only did I finally see Metronomy (in my home town no less), everywhere I looked was a touch of magic – the whole town thriving with creativity and really shining as a community. For the first time in ages, I felt so much joy to simply be back home and that is all thanks to By The Sea.
Here’s a piece I recently wrote for Vulture Hound, find it on the site here: http://vulturehound.co.uk/2016/10/by-the-sea-festival-dreamland-margate-festival-review/
Last year saw Margate’s newly re-opened amusement park, Dreamland, host Hot Chip and Foals as headliners for the first ever By The Sea Festival. The seaside town put on two nights of shows, with its success sparking interest for another show in 2016. Headliners this year included Wild Beasts andSuper Furry Animals on Friday, with Bat For Lashes and Wolf Alice on Saturday.
I recently took a buzzfeed quiz to find out which seaside town I should visit before Summer is over. I only ruddy got my hometown Margate didn’t I? Not on purpose either, it was one of those one question quizzes – “What beach food do you choose?”. Obviously it’s an incredibly exhilarating quiz, so I shan’t ruin it for you with my answer.
It just so happens I did venture down to Margate this Summer, not once but twice. Sure it’s more to do with my friends and family living over there than its recent boom as a seaside town, but I thought I ought to remind myself of what it has to offer.
